Transmigrated impacted mandibular canine: Cause of Ludwig’s angina

Intraosseous migration of unerupted teeth across the midline is a rare phenomenon known as dental transmigration. The term transmigration was coined by Ando et al in 1964. Transmigration defined movement canine through Tarsitano al. involving commonly called because affected moves mesially mandibular symphysis to opposite side mandible. Impaction maxillary canines more prevalent, whereas seen mandible.Transmigrated usually remain asymptomatic, or at times may be chronically infected, also causing pressure resorption roots adjacent teeth. Transmigrated mostly occur unilaterally but some cases bilateral occurrence had been reported. It frequently found females compared males ratio 1.6:1. Due its un-favourable position, repositioning orthodontic means rarely indicated and since transmigrated develop pathology associated with it, transalveolar extraction indicated. If impacted tooth foci odontogenic infection lead diffuse cellulitis, form Ludwig’s angina. condition bilaterally affects submandibular, sublingual, submental spaces, elevation floor mouth, obstruction airway stridor. presents medical emergency, requiring immediate surgical intervention, under antibiotic coverage. present study discusses case 63 years old patient presenting angina an cause infection- being transmigrated, canine.
